Lady Mavs XC Close Season at Regionals
In a season of many wins, the varsity cross country girls finished it off in seventh place out of 23 teams at the regional meet in Grand Prairie. Overcoming several injuries and tough competition, the Lady Mavericks represented McNeil with impressive results .
Despite a result that was less than ideal at regionals, sophomore Sara Millar still was one of the fastest girls this season. Also she enjoyed the community aspect of being part of a team.
“It was nice,” Millar said. “Making a bunch of memories with all my teammates.”
The youngest competitor, freshman Abbey Hobbs, crossed the finish line 25th out 177, the best result from the Lady Mavs and was three places away from going to state.
“I was shocked because I didn’t know I could do it, being a freshman, all the older girls have more experience than me,” Hobbs said. “I was proud of myself but I was also really proud of how my team did.”
