The six weeks is almost halfway over, which means we should all be halfway done with our projects due at the end of the cycle. Well, that’s what the teachers think. The truth is probably that most students are planning to do their projects two days before it’s due.
The reason that most people wait until the last minute to work on projects is because they don’t like them. Personally, I do not enjoy projects because I don’t have time to do them. If a teacher assigns at least 30 minutes of homework every night and that is multiplied by four, that’s two hours of straight focus that most people, myself included, don’t have the patience for. Adding in time for dinner, showering, and extracurricular activities, there is no time left for additional homework in each class.
Besides not having the time, I do not have the creativity or craftiness to make a project to be proud of. Most teachers leave projects open and free to whatever students want to do to show what information they have learned. Personally, I can never think of a good idea and end up with a sad piece of white paper with some Times New Roman on it.
Even though I don’t like projects, I can understand why teachers assign them. Teachers of advanced classes usually assign projects that teach students in more detail than they could because there is not enough class time.
Though projects seem like busywork, teachers want to let students use their creativity and enjoy learning. Sadly, something happens in between the idea and process of projects that makes the completion of them difficult to enjoy.
