Korean Pop Culture Catches Attention
As Psy’s Gangnam style drew sensational attention last summer, Korean pop culture has become the center of attention. Many people tend to know only about Korean pop music, however music is not the only source of entertainment. Famous TV shows or dramas hold lots of Korean audiences with fresh and unique ideas.
“Dad, Where are You Going?“ is a TV show which depicts a family’s journey without their mother. It consists of Korean celebrities, such as actors and athletes, and their children. This program shows not only young children but also fathers who became mature and closer with their children through the journey.
“Dad, Where are You Going“ reflects on social problems as well. As the number of dual income families increases, people spend less time with their families. This TV show depicts current social problems and possible solutions, too. As celebrities go on trips with their children, they look a little awkward at first, but as time passed, they became closer.
One of the traits of this TV show is that it has no script at all. It is all about the true story, giving the audience the impression of reality and sincerity. “Dad, Where are You Going” gives viewers pure smiles made by adorable children and a deep impression through their family love story.
The other Korean TV show which I want to recommend is “Running Man.” This show is based on the game “Cups and Thieves.” The seven team members show their harmony, which makes for lots of fun. Furthermore, it exports well and translates in diverse languages, such as Vietnam or China.
There are still lots of shows, movies or dramas which catch the audience’s mind. Through this recommendation of Korean culture, I hope people will get interested in Korean entertainment, not just K-pop.
