Five Seconds Can Change the Next Five Years
It is amazing what five seconds can do. Waiting five seconds to get up can make you late for school or work. Not taking the five seconds to stop at a stop sign can cause a car accident. Getting to the airport five seconds late could make you miss your flight that has a crash landing.
But what about taking five seconds to help a stranger? You never know what those five seconds can do for your life. Five seconds changed my life in a dramatic way I never thought was possible. Five seconds at a Joan Jett concert changed my sister’s and my life in a way you might not believe.
It started when we saw a lady, Kat Priem, trying to take pictures with her phone. While using her iPhone to take a picture she could not understand why it would not open. After she struggled for a few seconds, my sister tapped on her shoulder to offer her help. After helping her with her phone we chatted back and forth throughout the concert.
While we were talking, we found out she was a vice president of a major bank. Our mother showed up halfway through the concert and started talking to her. Priem started telling our mother about how mature we are and how impressed she was with the way we spoke to her. Just as we were about to leave Priem told our mother that she was going to strongly recommend my sister and me for scholarships and international internships in Barcelona, then gave our mother her phone number.
We were both still in shock about what really happened. You never know what five seconds can do.
