When you go into a mall, you see the typical places every time, Hollister, Pacsun, H&M, etc. These stores are easy and convenient to visit, as well as having on trend clothing items, but they are overrated. For the price and quality of the clothing, it’s not worth it.
What most people don’t know is that those stores in the mall and many more are considered fast fashion. Usually when people hear that word they think of things such as Shein or Zara, but there are so many more stores on that list. By purchasing from those stores the fast fashion problem only increases.
Most clothing items are upwards of $35, for a simple plain shirt, it’s not worth it. There are many alternative stores that will sell something that looks the same for less than half the price of that.
An alternative could be thrifting, it costs so much less than those stores and it is also sustainable for the environment. By reusing and recycling clothing, you are saving it from ending up in landfills. Finding pieces that appeal to your style at the thrift store may be a challenge at first, but if you truly look there are hidden gems. There’s more than just thrift stores — flea markets, garage sales, and online resellers are available as substitutes.
When shopping at mainstream mall stores, everyone ends up buying the same pieces. Finding your own style doesn’t happen much shopping there. Instead of dressing like everyone else, by shopping at thrift stores you can express your own personal style rather than copying everybody else.
