The Cross Country competitive season is finally over after the many miles of hard work the girls put in. The team have had an amazing showing at every meet this year.
“Hard work, focus, team unity and having talented runners contributed to our success this season,” Coach Chris Cotten said.
Both teams took first place at the district meet on Oct. 26. Junior Megan Pellacani placed sixth at district from the varsity team. Junior Amelia McElhinney earned overall first place of the varsity girls and sophomore Elise Dalton took overall first place of the junior varsity girls.
The varsity girls ran their region meet in Arlington on Nov. 3 where they placed fifth out of 24 teams, an amazing feat.
“Region was exciting because it was my second year and we had a girl make it to State,” Pellacani said. “We’re doing faster workouts to keep up our speed. I like how cross country is about the individual and the group. You do your best and it adds to how well the group does.”
McElhinney finished sixth place out of all the girls that competed in the region meet which gave her a spot in the state competition.
The state meet took place on Nov. 10 at the Old Settler’s Park where McElhinney took ninth place, earning herself a medal, along with the other top ten girls.
“Making it to state is exciting because it’s something I have wanted since I was a freshman and to achieve it is unreal,” McElhinney said. “Without my teammates, family and friends I wouldn’t be where I am. I’ve been blessed with good coaching and I’m very lucky.”
