Anyone who has played baseball knows the feeling of when you get pegged by the ball while batting. McNeil Junior Cameron Terrell is no stranger to the feeling, having become accustomed to it over the years.
Terrell was hit 10 times in his freshman year alone, five times in his sophomore year and eight times so far this season, all accounting to a total of 23 over his three years
βIt [getting hit] can get really old after a while if you get hit enough times,β Terrell said.
There are different reasons why players tend to get hit, whether it be where they take their position at the plate or if they just have bad luck. For Terrell, it is because he tends to crowd the plate. Reactions to getting hit by the ball vary between players as well, but Terrell said he just tries to not let the pitcher know that it hurts and go down to first base normally.
There are many records that can go down in the books during a baseball season, but one of the strangest β and possibly most painful β is the most hit by pitches. The current school record stands at 14 times being hit in a single season, which is held by Tyler Taute, who graduated in 2012. However, Terrell could break that record by the end of the season if he continues to get hit at the plate.
