For The First Time In 7 Years

The Maverick Band makes finals in a BOA competiton for the first time in 7 years

The Maverick band traveled to Midland, Texas, Oct. 14 to compete in a Bands Of America competition.

“Each year we compete and hope that we will make finals,” sophomore Valerie Alvarado said. “We have had great season and can’t wait to conquer more competitions.”

The band made finals and placed sixth overall.

“I am so proud of the band, and what we have accomplished to make this possible,” sophomore Elizabeth Bono said. “This is the first time in seven years that we have made it to the finals in a BOA competition. ”

Selections included “Gene takes a Drink” by Michael Gordon, “Little Fugue in G minor” by Canadian Brass and The Toronto All Stars, “Reflections on the Mississippi for Tuba” by Michael  Daugherty, “NO one To kNOW one” by Andy Akiho, “715 – CREEKS” by Bon Iver, and “Kingfishers Catch Fire: II. Kingfishers Catch” by John Mackey.

The band’s next competition is on Saturday, November 4 at Kelly Reeves Athletic Complex.
