School is back in session so that means volleyball is back, too. The Lady Mavs varsity volleyball team is currently in preseason, which is the time of the season leading up to playing schools within the district.
“We just go to a bunch of tournaments and play schools outside of our district like Leander ISD and Pflugerville ISD,” senior varsity player Harshitha Yalamanchili said. “It’s just kind of in preparation for season.”
They were set to have five games in preseason however the game against East View got canceled. The first two have been away games. McNeil lost to Hendrickson with a score of 0-3 L. McNeil beat Chaparral with a score of 3-0 W.
The two remaining games of preseason will be home games: August 29 against Lake Belton and September 1 against Leander.
“We have a smaller varsity team this year but all of us are really close,” Yalamanchili said. “We’ve been playing together for a really long time and it’s a bigger senior varsity [team] this year so it’s kind of just all the girls I’ve been playing with for the last 4 or 5 years. I’m just really excited. I think we have a really good shot of placing top four of our district which means we can go to playoffs. I’m excited to see how it pans out. We have a lot of potential.”
The first game of the official district season will be an away game on Tuesday, Sept. 12 against Vandegrift.
