After a two-week break from games, the JV football team played Vista Ridge High School last week and came away with a tough loss of 14-20.
The JV football team is making adjustments before it plays this Thursday against Vandegrift High School.
“The game [against Vista Ridge] was good,” junior wide receiver Jermichael Gray said. “We just made a lot of mistakes that made us lose. If we can make fewer mistakes, then without a doubt, we will win next week against Vandegrift.”
Gray believes if they work hard and play together, they can force Vandegfrift to make mistakes so the Mavericks can take home the win.
“We need to work on our red zone plays, and we need to work on our timing with the quarterback,” Gray said. “ We need to talk with our quarterback so there is no confusion when we are playing.”
Sophomore safety Aidan Murray agrees that mistakes cost the team the game against Vista, but he also thinks that the team had some great plays.
“Preston’s (Stone) touchdown was really good,” Murray said. “I think if we had more plays like that then we could have won.”
Stone’s touchdown was a five-yard run from the running back position. Junior Jackson Edwards followed the touchdown with a solid kick for the extra point.
