Last Saturday, Sept. 30, The Mavs cross country JV and varsity teams went to the Georgetown Invitational at Eastview high school.
Six runners medaled in the 5k race. Out of those six runners, two were on varsity girls: Maddie Jones (14) and Barvi Varu (15). One was on JV girls, Gabrielle Bartlett (10). One was for varsity boys, Noah Menchaca (10). Two medaled in the JV boys race, John Robinson (3) and Maurycy Pawlowski (14).
“The course for the meet was rough,” Noah Menchaca said. “There was little elevation but a lot of turns.”
The course had three loops with a hill to run in each lap.
“Otherwise, it was pretty flat, which is always nice,” Bartlett said. “It was kind of muddy, the texture of the ground was not the best.”
Usually, the runners are provided with a bus but at this cross-country meet the runners were not provided transport to the meet.
“It wasn’t that bad we got there on time, but I miss the energy of the bus,” Menchaca said.
The next meet is the Round Rock Invitational at Old Settlers Park this Thursday, Oct. 12.
