On Thursday, Sept. 12 the swim and dive teams competed at the Lake Travis/Rouse Tri-Meet, with both the boys and girls teams achieving first place at the meet. At the meet, the team had 83 high school personal best performances.
“It was a really cool meet,” head swim and dive coach Johnny Foss said. “We just had a phenomenal performance, the school spirit was through the roof.”
Foss believes the current team is unlike any other team seen in years past.
“You’re always gonna graduate some talent, you’re always bringing in some talent,” Foss said. “The kids that came in are a very tight knit group already. They were just screaming their heads off for each other.”
Sophomore Addison Crail beat her personal record in the 100m backstroke, lowering her personal best by a second.
“It felt pretty good [to win against the two teams],” Crail said. “It was more [important how we beat] personal times though.”
Junior captain Gabrielle Allen made a new personal record in the 50m freestyle, also lowering her record time by almost a second.
“A stand out moment was probably when I hit the wall during the 50[m freestyle] and realized that [my personal record] dropped a second,” Allen said. “I was just kind of anticipating adding a lot of time so when it dropped I was like ‘Wow, I’m awesome.’”
Allen looks forward to advancing with her team to regionals and state and hopes to advance to regionals in an individual event.
“Now that I’m a captain, I feel like I represent the whole team,” Allen said. “Everyone doing good kind of made me feel like I did really good.”
