The Lady Mavs marked the halfway point of their 2024 season on Friday, Sept. 27, with an intense game against Stony Point, ending in a 0-3 loss. Going into the second round of the season, the Mavs are now more prepared to face these teams.
“I think we’ve had a good first round of districts, the team is starting to slowly collaborate and find our connection,” sophomore Jaidyn Williams said. “I think the second round will be way better than the first, it’s gonna be a good season.”
The Lady Mavs kicked off district play with a program sweep against Manor, with all four teams bringing home the win. Going deeper into the season they faced tougher teams like Vandegrift High School, losing in a tough 0-3 L.
“A high was manor because we had a full sweep of all four teams,” sophomore Lainey Mican said. “We’ve been able to stay motivated because we know we have the second round of districts to try again, and if they are going to doubt us we will be able to use that to our advantage.”
As the second round of district competition approaches, the Mavs are currently ranked 8th in districts. Refusing to let their current record discourage them, the Mavericks remain excited for this opportunity to make a comeback.
“We are excited for the second part of the season because we’ve already seen our opponents and know what to expect,” senior Kira Dagenhart said. “We’ve been improving on how we can beat them next time, so we are prepared.”
As the second round unfolds, the Lady Mavs remain determined, and will officially wrap up their season on Tuesday, Oct. 29, when they play Stony Point at home.
