It’s time for school spirit this season to get spooky. Manor vs. McNeil Football Game at Dragon Stadium is on Halloween!
Students all around campus have mixed feelings about a beloved holiday conflicting with a football game. Senior running back, Aden Taylor, believes football is so worth losing Halloween for.
“Football is my life, that’s what I am going to college for.” Taylor said. “I don’t trick or treat, but it being on Halloween, I believe someone who wants to do something [on Halloween], won’t like the conflict between Halloween and the Manor game.”
Growing up can be hard, and Halloween means something different now to everyone. It could be bringing out your inner child one night of the year, staying home cozy throughout the night, or partying as if it was the last day on Earth. Many people value the time of spooky enjoyment. Sydney Solomon, sophomore bass drum in band, wants to spend her Halloween night with her friends.
“I should be doing stuff on Halloween so why are we forced to go to a football game.” Solomon said. “I had [plans] to go to my friend’s house and now I can’t. I was going to watch movies and bake cookies.”
Although athletes, dancers, and musicians believe their spooky fun might be taken away, friends and family are still in favor of showing up to support their Mavericks.
“My mom will still be there supporting me on Halloween because she is pit crew [for the band],” Sophomore french horn player Sonia Garcia said. “However, I would much rather spend the night at my house just watching scary movies with my friends or with my mom.”
Senior Night is also on the Manor game at Dragon Stadium. This conflict of Halloween and Senior Night can possibly affect the outcome of seniors attending the game.
“I want to go to the game because it is Senior Night,” senior Luke Ebeling said. “I want to enjoy my last football game as a senior.”
Although many seniors want to partake in high school traditions, lots of people are still conflicted with the choice to make.
“This can affect students because some people may have to decide whether or not to go to the game,” Ebeling said. “Which can be a hard decision as both activities are fun and memorable.”
As Halloween approaches, we hope everyone has a spooky season and another win for the McNeil Maverick Varsity football team!
