What if I told you our school is host to one of the top basketball teams in the state of Texas? What if I told you that team is undefeated? What if I said that the school this team is representing, isn’t supporting it?

The first two statements are true and sadly the last statement is also true.

The varsity girls’ basketball team is undefeated and recognized statewide as a top team. The only problem is that many people in the team’s school don’t know that.

“We made a name for ourselves in all of Central Texas, from not being ranked in the beginning of the season to being ranked now,” senior guard Troi Swain said.

The Lady Mavs, led by Coach Jennifer Moore, are coming back from a lackluster season, finishing 13-18 last year, and they are playing better than ever. This is the first time since the 2010-2011 season that the team has started the season 6-0.

The next time there’s a Lady Mavs game, make sure you go watch because it will be a show, and you’ll be watching a team that has a chance to go deep in the playoffs and do some damage.

If you have any more doubts on whether to go to a game and support the Lady Mavs, Swain had something to say, “It’s just as exciting as boy’s basketball; girls can hoop, too.”
