As Pre-Season Ends, Boys’ Soccer Begins District Play

The boys’ varsity soccer pre-season came to an end with a record of 3-1-2.

The Mavs participated against mostly playoff-caliber teams in the preseason. They learned from their early performances and adjusted to a more offensive position and dangerous style.

“We hope to see our rowdy (yet respectful) student body out to support us as we earn a second consecutive district championship and a trip to playoffs,” coach Justin Sharrock said.

Junior Jorge Burke, who made five goals in pre-season, was the lead scorer.

“In the beginning of the season we struggled and we lost a couple of games that we shouldn’t have,” Burke said.  Right now I’m feeling good and confident and I”m trying to stay humble and trying to pass that on to the team.”

The boys look forward to playing an attacking and relentless style of soccer. Junior Ninad Gokhale made three assists, which helped the team gain control of the ball.

“Everything is going great and we’ve been performing much better,” Gokhale said. “We’ve been meeting up on the weekends during winter break to do a few drills and practice working as a team.”

The Mavs play their next home game at the Kelly Reeves Athletic Complex Tuesday, Feb. 10 at 8 p.m.
