Sponsored by the Future Farmers of America, the McNeil Fishing Club will compete against other schools and possibly win scholarship money.
“As this is the first year, I’d like to see an increase in members as well as outdoor activities, letting us get outside and forget about the burdens of life for awhile”, club president senior Matt Romere said.
There are fishing tournaments all across the nation but the Mavericks are keeping their eyes upon Texas. Romere has been involved in FFA since his freshman year and has advocated for a fishing team ever since.
“In the spring and summer we’re planning on entering some tournaments, but as of right now we’re just practicing and having fun,” Romere said.
The team meets every first Wednesday of each month at 4:45 p.m. in H125, the Ag room. Next meeting, the team will discuss live and fake bait as well as different types of lures.
