The Austin Film Society announced a special event screening of 1993’s “Dazed & Confused” on Sept. 29. The event will be joined by director Richard Linklater, select cast and crew. The event screening is set to kick off their theatrical run of the “Dazed & Confused” 4K transfer at the AFS Cinema.
Linklater, who was one of the founding members of AFS in 1985, will be in attendance to host a Q&A with audience members after the screening. It was announced that a “select cast & crew” will be joining him, but names are yet to be announced.
“Dazed & Confused” was released Sept. 24, 1993, to lackluster numbers. Though the film is a beloved cult classic today, it only grossed $8.1M against a $6.9M budget in its initial theatrical release.
“I’ve seen it once at a movie night with kids from school, it was really fun,” senior Bella Garcia said. “I think it added a little touch to the movie, because there [was] a bunch of kids I had never met.”
After the event on the 29th, AFS will start screening a 4K restoration normally on Oct. 4-10.
Tickets for the special screening are $30 for non-AFS members and $20 for members. The normal 4K restoration screenings are $13.50 for evenings and $11 for matinees. For more information on tickets and scheduling, visit the AFS website.
