the cave / society’s lies / everyone’s truth
what is reality?
you say that i’m in a cave and the light is only a step away but
aren’t you the one in the cave, the shackles confining your mind
fixated in place?
and what of your “light”
is it really universal truth or are you just
a prisoner in your own right?
just like the rest of society
but don’t worry, we have plenty of room
darkness is eternally expansive, after all
you perceive my beliefs as a cave that
shelters me, hides me away from the truth
but if that is what you believe then
you’re sheltered, too
because you’re too blind, we’re too blind
this world is too blind
to distinguish what is really light and what
isn’t(?)
every day, they play for me
a show of shadow puppets
[according to you]
and what i see is only an illusion because
the light is a step away and the shadows are
deception
but dear child, tell me
what is the light? is it really worth the
grueling ascent through the cave
and the sharp glare of the sun upon contact
and the pain in my neck as the shackles are broken and
i can finally “turn” my head?
my view is widened, i can see the world, the
sheer horror of all the lies that they fed can be a thing of the past
but what if the truth holds more horrors than one can imagine?
see, we are constantly lying to ourselves
you are trying to convince me to see the light
all the while convincing yourself that what you think is the light
is in fact so
and all the while deceiving yourself into believing so
when all of a sudden society will force you to step out of your cave
“what cave?” you protest, because
you’re in the light, right?
but then again, a blind person can’t distinguish that
and don’t worry; society is blind too
everyone is blind
and everyone believes that they are in the light
but the truth; my truth
whether or not it comes from the radiance of the sun or the shadows on the walls
is that we are all in a cave, but our eyes see differently
and here i am in my cave
staring at shadows on the wall
my reality
your reality
what is reality?
