Round Rock ISD Bond Committee Proposes Package for May 10, 2014

The RRISD Citizens Bond Committee (CBC) offered suggestions to RRISD Board of Trustees meeting at the Feb. 12 meeting.

From the recommendation of co-chairs Barbara Beto and Jeff French, at minimum the Board asks voters to accept a sequence of projects that would “relieve significant and severe overcrowding.”

It is estimated that the annual cost for an average homeowner in RRISD is based on the median home value of $200,262 after the homestead exemption.

One of the key projects recommended includes the development of a Master Plan and Phase I funding for McNeil High School and the Agriculture project.

The CBC proposed splitting the $287 million bond into three propositions: The first proposition uses $225.8 million to address growth, maintenance and technology.

The second utilizes $22.2 million to expand technology in the district. If this proposition passes, McNeil, along with all the secondary schools in the district, will receive a new computer lab for journalism classes.

The third proposition applies the remaining $38.9 million to expand access to fine arts venues.

There are more than 100 community volunteers, the CBC needs to consider district growth, safety and health, curriculum and technology and Infrastructure needs. The committee was structured into four subcommittees to consider the needs of elementary, secondary, district-wide and technology, and finance.

The decision to put the bond proposal on the May 10 ballot will be made Tuesday, Feb. 25.
