HOSA Students Go to Area, State
Over the course of two days, students competed in the HOSA Online Testing Competition with results announced Dec. 11.
“The experience was overwhelming,” junior Jessica Lau said. “I felt bewildered when I find out about my placement.”
Students competed in events such as Dental Terminology, Medical Terminology, Human Growth and Development, Medical Law & Ethics, Pharmacology, Nutrition, Transcultural Health Care, Nursing Assisting, Veterinary Science, Epidemiology, Healthy Lifestyles, Forensic Medicine, Biomedical Debate, Medical Spelling, Medical Math, Pathophysiology, CPR/First Aid, Emergency Medical Tech, Forensic Medicine, and Healthcare Issues Exam.
The students who will advance on to Area in February for the second round are: Vishal Bandaru, Amogh Kashyap,Vignesh Krishnamurthy, Jeremy Lee, Jessica Lau, Saheel Chodavadia, Annalisa Capuchino, and Eunji Lim.
The students who will advance on to the state conference in Dallas in April are: Monica Nguyen, Saheel Chodavadia, Samuel Mokhtar, Zhiqi Wang, and Jacklyn Matthews.
For placing in the top five of their event, Jean Lai and Samagra Jain received Honorary Mentions.
“I feel satisfied with my placement,” junior Monica Nguyen said. “I studied a lot, so I felt well-prepared when I took the test.”
To anyone who wants to compete in next year’s HOSA competition, it’s important to not delay with studying for the event.
“Remember to pay close attention to the rubric, study for the materials listed in the guidelines, and do not procrastinate,” CNA instructor and HOSA sponsor Lynn Matthews said.
