Boys’ Basketball Win Against Stony Point

Mavs lead a victory and advance into Playoffs.

Boys’ basketball won the game against Stony Point Feb. 10 by a score of 63-59. The Mavs started off slow at the beginning of the game and made progress throughout the third and fourth quarters.

“We were down by 17 late in the third quarter,” coach Darrell Hagemann said.  “We scored 32 points in the fourth quarter and won by four.”

So far it has been a long and rewarding season for the boys. Juggling practice, academics, sleep, and social lives, the boys have not only exceeded in balancing school and sports, but have also won two-thirds of their season games.

“We have improved in many areas throughout the year,” senior Alex Cage said, “We have become more mature during the year. When things don’t go our way, we are able to play our way through adversities.”

Even though the team is looking good there are always things they can improve on. The goal is for the team to advance to playoffs and bring back some glory for the school.

“We have to start games better,” senior Armoni Brooks said. “There have been some games that we have started extremely slow in.  In the playoffs, you have to play four good quarters.”

The intense game against Stony Point has left the Mavs with great spirit. Their hard work and determination paints the perfect picture for great games in the playoffs.

“I was very proud of our effort in the Stony Point game,” Hagemann said. “They played extremely hard in the second half.”
