Basketball Coach Wins ‘All Central Texas Coach of the Year’ Award
After years of hard work and dedication, boys’ basketball coach Darrell Hagemann received the All Central Texas Coach of the Year Award.
“It is a really neat honor and I am very proud for our program to receive it,” Hagemann said.
The Mavs started the year off with three losses, but then made a comeback and won the District 13-6A Championship.
“I am proud of the fact that we improved as the year progressed,” Hagemann said., “We were 0-3 at the start of the year and 5-5 at one time. The guys were coachable and worked really hard.”
While the team consisted of only two seniors, the games were a major success. Each player brought something valuable to the team.
“To be honest it takes really good players,” Hagemann said. “To get to the regional semi-finals you have to have good players.”
Coach Hagemann gained his 500th career win, and the team, as a whole, gained its 498th win.
“I would like to thank the student section and (Principal Courtney) Acosta for all their support during the playoffs,” Hagemann said. “We had a really good turnout of students during our playoff run and Mrs. Acosta helped that with her willingness to get the spirit buses. It is always more fun when more people are involved.”
