HOSA students advance after online testing

HOSA students advance to round two at area and state competitions after success with their online testing.

“My partner Sumin and I studied separately for the online testing portion, and we’ll have to practice together for the physical part and by practicing lifting people up and first aid,” sophomore Riti Srivastava said.

For some HOSA competitions there is no area portion. This is why some competitions do online testing and then qualify directly for state because they are only knowledge based. The students advancing to round two at area conference have testing that then qualifies them for area and then they go compete in front of a judge.

The following students will progress to round two at area conference on January 29:

Sarah Lee  (10) Biomedical Laboratory Science

Annalisa Capuchino (11) Veterinary Science

Anthony Nguyen(10) Dental Science

Jessica Lau (12) Medical Spelling

Sumin Son  (10) CERT Skills

Riti Srivastava (10) CERT Skills

Cathy Nguyen  (11) Healthy Lifestyle

“Each competition is very different in the knowledge and skills which makes it hard for competitors to find the one that fits them, but for health care issues it is mainly keeping up with the news and being aware of what is going on,” Monica Nguyen said.

The following students will advance to State Competition in Galveston in April.

Amritavarshini Mayavaram (9) Medical Math

Shannen Phan (10) Dental Terminology

Jessica Nguyen  (10)                           Health Care Issues Exam

Monica Nguyen (12)                            Health Care Issues Exam

Christine Huynh  (12)                           Human Growth & Development

Judy Li (11)                                         Human Growth & Development

Saheel Chodavadia (12)                    Medical Law and Ethics

Jean Lai (12)                                       Nutrition

Zhiqi Wang  (12)                                 Pathophysiology
“I was really surprised to find out that I advanced. I picked my event because it was similar to Psychology class so my past knowledge helped me a lot,” Christine Huynh said. “I feel like picking which event to compete in is important because it depends on the event’s popularity and your level of knowledge. You can never study enough.”
