Mav artists come back from VASE with impressive results

Every year, art students of all levels put their best work forward for Visual Arts Scholastic Event. This time around, McNeil produced impressive results. From the five art teachers, there were 45 regional scores of 4 and four state qualifiers.

“I decided to enter VASE for the experience,” sophomore Hari Jeung said. “I wanted to see what it was like to participate in a professional competition.”

For senior Elizabeth Hoeft, this year’s competition was a pleasant surprise.

“I was really happy,” Hoeft said. “I wasn’t expecting to get a 4.”

Drawing teacher Marisa Marsico had eight regional scores of 4 and one state qualifier, awarding her students an impressive showing.

“VASE is like our UIL,” Marsico said. “The kids work really hard for it.”
