Students participate at Ren Fest, bring home 8th trophy
The Texas Renaissance Festival welcomed McNeil students to compete in costume contests, as well as perform prepared scenes from various plays including the famous Shakespeare and Marlowe. Many schools from all over Texas travel to compete at this event, including our few group and duet scenes.
“All the students did very well,” Head Theater Director Aaron Johnson said. “Because of this year’s winnings, this makes it the 8th year in a row that McNeil has brought home at least one trophy.”
Scenes from plays acted out by students included The Tempest and Twelfth Knight. Out of all of the schools that participated, McNeil came away with 2nd and 3rd place trophies in the Group Scene competition.
“Our group in particular had to improvise when our set changed spontaneously, but it was a challenge that we well overcame.” Senior Myrrhijiah Aquino-Whitehead said. “I had the chance to get closer to many people in our theatre department, and everything was very fun.”
