2 Teachers Selected as Finalists for HEB Excellence in Education Awards
Aquatic Science teacher Kari Teague and Pre-Cal/Calculus teacher Emily Jensen were selected as finalists for HEB Lifetime Achievement Award and Excellence in Education Award, respectively. This is the first time two teachers from RRISD have been selected as finalists for the HEB Education Awards.
“I am very excited and honored,” Jensen said. “I didn’t think I had a chance since I was competing with teachers across the whole state.”
Last year, Teague received McNeil Teacher of the Year and won RRISD Secondary Teacher of the Year for her excellence in the classroom.
“I was just overwhelmingly honored to be considered,” Teague said. “I teach because I love this profession and I love kids.”
The HEB Excellence in Education Awards will be announced May 7. Educators are nominated by students, parents, colleagues, or administrators. “We as teachers don’t get very many accolades,” Jensen said. “The fact that someone recognizes your hard work and passions really means a lot.”
