The book club had their first meeting of the year on Friday, Nov. 15, during Flex in the library. The book club is a student-led organization sponsored by the librarians in which students read and discuss books as a group.

“We had a lot of people who asked us about what was going on with book club this year,” co-librarian Amelia Lewis said. “Most students who organized and led the book club graduated last year, so Mrs. Falli and I thought this might be a really good time to revamp it.”

At the meeting, the students elected officers and discussed activities that they wanted to do throughout the year. Many students who are avid readers shared their ideas about reviving the book club.

“I joined book club because I like talking to real people about fictional characters in the book,” sophomore Siona Kalambi said. “The characters of the book are actually relatable and you can share your feelings with people who read the same book as you. You can also make more friends.”

The members of the book club hope to do more fun activities beyond discussing books. The book club will meet on every A-day Friday during Flex at the library.

“I’d really love it if we could become more organized and do things like going to the Texas Teen book festival and meeting the authors,” Lewis said. “I’m looking forward to doing something where we can take the idea of book club and expand it outside the walls of the school library.”
