Warnock, Ossoff to win Georgia Senate seats AP projects

The Associated Press projected Wednesday, Jan. 6 that Democratic candidates Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff will win Georgia’s runoff election for the state’s Senate seats. Warnock is the first African American senator elected in Georgia.

“I am so honored by the faith that you have shown in me, and I promise you this: I am going to the Senate to work for Georgia, all of Georgia, no matter who you cast your vote for in this election,” Warnock said in a statement on Tuesday. “To everyone out there struggling today—whether you voted for me or not—know this: I see you. I hear you. And I will fight for you. I will fight for your family.”

Warnock and Ossoff’s victories split the Senate 50-50. In the case of a tie, Vice President Elect Kamala Harris will cast the deciding vote, giving Democrats control of the Senate.
