Adjustments to theater teacher Aaron Johnson’s roster were made this school year. In previous years, general theater classes were divided into multiple sections. Theater I consists of students in their first year of theater, theater II consists of those in their second course of theater and a theater III/IV class is a combined class of those in their third or fourth year of theater.
This year the combined theater course that was once a combination of courses III and IV, is now a combination of courses II, III and IV. A class that was once predominantly full of juniors and seniors is now a grade-diverse class of sophomores, juniors and seniors. However, the combined classes are not new to Johnson as he has taught them before.
With that being said, Johnson expects no more stress than felt before. In fact, Johnson seems to have a rather positive outlook for this class in particular.
“Having a bigger class makes classes more fun and exciting,” Johnson said. “I can tell in larger groups more kids feel more comfortable with engaging and embracing the lessons and performing.”
Students currently taking the course, also seem to have positive thoughts to share about the course.
“After the games we’ve played, I can tell we’ll work well together,” senior Cheyyene Dennis said. “I enjoy the loud energy from this class the most.”
Dennis seems to be in the same boat as Johnson as they both seem fond of the fact that the class is big and full of exciting opportunities due to its size, age and experience range.
Although the overall structure of the class has not been determined in terms of student interactions. Johnson is under the impression that the upperclassmen in the class will be there to help guide and lead the way for underclassmen who may be unfamiliar with the course.
“Upperclassmen have already been here so they will set good examples, but underclassmen have more energy to offer,” sophomore Frances Rivers said. “I think we can work well together and learn about the meaning of theater.”
The responses given seem to give a positive outlook on the Theater II, III and IV combined courses this school year.
