After school on Sept. 9, Book Club held their first meeting. The meeting was an introduction to what Book Club is and what their first book of the month is.
Book Club is a club where students can hang out and discuss a book while having fun doing it. The club meets monthly in the library after school. At meetings, they host fun book related activities such as Kahoots to keep students entertained.
Each month, they have a meeting to discuss the month’s book and choose the next month’s book. The book options come from the inputs of the librarians, members, and presidents. Out of six book options, the majority vote was for “Legends of Sleepy Hollow” by Washington Irving.
“It’s my personal favorite,” junior Book Club Vice President Guari Karle said. “I think it’s pretty good, especially since Halloween’s coming.”
Students who attend get introduced to new genres while connecting with other students who are also interested in reading.
“It was pretty good,” junior Trisha Shah said. “I like reading in general and it was a good opportunity to read different genres and books that I would normally read or I haven’t gotten around to read[ing] yet so it’s kind of fun to [be in the club].”
Book Club is planning on having other entertaining activities including a winter social/mixer, helping out with the book fair, book drives and other related activities.
The next meeting does not have an official date yet, but it’s tentatively scheduled for Oct. 9 or Oct. 11 after school in the library from 4:30-5:15 p.m.
