The Leap year was introduced to the calendar by Julius Caesar in 46 B.C. Egypt. Leap years happen once every four years, giving an extra day to the end of February.
The chance of being born on leap day is one in 1,461 days, making it the rarest birthday one can have. Daunte Tyree is the only student at McNeil that has this birthday.
“I like that my birthday is on Leap Day because It’s unique,” Tyree said. “On years when there is not a leap day I celebrate on both February 28 and March 1.”
Tonight Tyree plans on going downtown to celebrate by going downtown with his family.
