Central Texas is experiencing a total solar eclipse on Apr. 8 from 1:32 to 1:41 p.m. McNeil has set in place some plans to make viewing the eclipse safe and possible for students at school.
Students wanting to view the eclipse outside will need to turn in a signed permission slip. The permission slips will be distributed to students in their third-period classes today, Mar. 20. They are needed back to the school by Mar. 28 for students to participate. Students will turn them in to their third-period teacher.
On Apr. 8, during flex, first-period teachers will give a mini-presentation on the eclipse. No student will be able to flex out on this day. It’s unsafe to view the eclipse without safety glasses on. The school and PTSA are providing these eclipse viewing glasses to students who have their permission slips during their third period on the day of the eclipse.
On the day of the eclipse, students will be escorted outside around 1:25 p.m. today as a class. Students who either don’t want to participate and/or didn’t bring a signed permission slip will be relocated during this time. Students going outside will not be penalized with extra/makeup work. All students should enter the building around 1:45 p.m. and continue the rest of the day as normal.
