This weekend the FRC Robotics team “The Robobots” went to Rockwall to compete in the NTX tournament.
“We do off-season competitions to prepare for the coming season,” junior Abhinav Devarakonda said. “So we brought our robot and competed with other students this weekend.“
During the qualification for playoffs match, they finished #1, a first for a Round Rock district team.
“Qualification matches are always intense,” Devarakonda said. “In this tournament since it was off season it was structured differently so we want to be first so we can get the best other team in order to form our alliance. We were tense during the first competitions since during the first competitions we faced issues with the alignment of our launcher.”
They selected team 148, the Robowranglers from Greenville, TX, and team 9993, Westwood’s summer practice robot, for the playoff matches. Together they went 4-1 in a double elimination bracket and won the event.
“We had one of the best alliances I would say,” Devarakonda said. “We did really well in the playoffs, we only lost one match. My favorites part of competitions are always fixing things that go wrong because in the moment there is a lot of pressure to fix things that go wrong but in the moment, the experience of doing that is really fun because you have to think on the spot.”
