Library Aid v.s. Office Aid

As the time to choose classes for next year approaches, students who are thinking of taking Office Aid, should consider the pros, cons and responsibilities of both Library Aid and Office Aid. Students may be switched to the library or the office for a semester depending on the need in a specific place.

Library Aid

Pros

  • The library is a quiet working environment perfect for reading and doing homework.
  • Students can learn more about the inner workings of the library, such as how to shelve books, check in and check out books, among other skills.  Library aids also get access to all of the books as soon as they are returned.
  • Minimal walking is required to work at the library.
  • For students who like to read, the library is a great place to discover new books and discuss current reads with the librarians.

Cons

  • There is not as much interaction between library aids and other teachers, and library aids will not get to visit other teachers’ classrooms very often.

Office Aid

Pros

  • Most of the time the office suites are quiet, so it’s a great place to read or work on homework.
  • Students can get a better idea of where different classes are located and familiarize themselves more with the school, as well as with teachers.
  • Students taking office aid during second or sixth period are free to choose the lunch they would like to have.

Cons

  • A lot of walking is involved because students are required to deliver passes to different classes as part of the job.
