Why Students Cheat, How to Stop This

A survey was conducted across America to see how many students cheat. The results were 95% of students admitted to cheating.

Looking more, studies have shown that students say they receive too much from classes. Some students have part-time jobs and family obligations while maintaining good grades. This makes it stressful for students to keep up with assignments and prepare for exams. Cheating might provide short-term relief, but it won’t help to develop skills for the real world. Holding academic integrity can hold ethical values throughout one’s life. A study by the Educational Testing Service found that students who do academic dishonesty face challenges in developing essential skills for the future.

With so much pressure, students often find themselves seeking ways to cut corners. Some cheat by copying homework from their friends while others use their phones to look up information during exams. In some cases, students even pay others to do their assignments for them. Cheating ruins fair competition and respect among students. It creates an atmosphere where genuine learning is removed. A research paper published in the Journal of Educational Psychology in 2020 found that cheating creates an atmosphere that cuts out genuine learning which not only affects the cheaters but also their peers.

The consequences of cheating are severe and the school system needs to address this issue. Failing grades, worst reputations and the possibility of getting expelled are just some of the consequences that cheaters could face. It is important for schools to implement policies that help students manage their workload in a healthy and balanced manner.

In conclusion, cheating is a widespread problem in America and it is a direct result of the overwhelming workload that students are given. In order to prevent cheating, schools need to make adjustments to their policies, focusing on creating a balanced and manageable workload for students. Only then can we ensure that students have the chance to excel academically while still maintaining their health and well-being.
