The varsity volleyball team went head-to-head with the Vista Ridge Raiders on Aug. 29 at home. They took the win 3-2.

“I felt very strong that we were going to win tonight,” sophomore, Erin Flood, said. “We’re a talented young team and we’ve scouted Vista Ridge, so we know we can beat them.”

In the first set, the Mavs won 25-22 with senior Aubrey Steed as leading scorer with two kills and one block. Sophomore, Rachel Lynch scored the first point with a kill that Vista Ridge couldn’t pick up.

“We did a lot of team drills, team bonding, and working hard together,” Sophomore, Sadie Shipman said

The girls conquered both sets until the third and fourth, where they lost 15-25, and 21-25. Finally in the last set they fought hard for a win of 15-13. Steed led the team with four blocks and seven kills in the final game.

“They played good together,” coach Kate Kennedy said. “They had their ups and downs, but they finally pulled it together in the fifth set.”

Their next home game is scheduled for Sept. 15 against Round Rock at 6:30
