Swimmers Race to Success at TISCA meet
The swim team competed in the Coastal Bend Texas Interscholastic Swimming Coaches Association, or TISCA, meet in Corpus Christi on Nov. 22-23 where the girls’ team placed first while individuals were specifically successful as well.
“Our girls team was able to take first for the first time,” junior Kate Shomper said. “That was really exciting.”
The girls of the swim team took first place out of 57 teams at this year’s TISCA meet, which was the largest Coastal Bend TISCA meet in history.
“TISCA is always an important meet for our team,” junior Cara Chin said. “So it’s great that our girls team was so successful.”
There were individual achievements at TISCA as well. Freshman Nicole Bogusch earned first place in the 1 meter and 3 meter diving events while freshman Sutton Marvin placed first in 500 free. Also, Shomper earned third place in both the 500 free and 200 IM events.
“I was really happy after my events because I hadn’t improved my times in some of my races in a long time,” Shomper said. “I wasn’t expecting good swims, so I was pleasantly surprised with my times.”
The success at the meet against teams from all over the state has energized the team for the rest of the season, which continues Jan. 11 in Temple.
“This last meet was the highlight of our season so far,” swim coach Johnny Foss said. “Now our focus shifts to our Championship season which will begin in late January.”
