The McNeil Swim Team is coached by Coach Foss, who also coaches the Water Polo team. ”We have a very talented group of swimmers and divers. We’re very excited about what we can accomplish this year.”
The senior captains Camila Mota and Luke Fell both have their own reasons for swimming. “I originally started swimming in third grade at the YMCA so I wouldn’t drown, but then I ended up really enjoying it because of the feeling of being in control when I’m in the water.” Mota said.
Fell has been swimming since seventh grade and learned from Coach Foss during the Sting Rays Summer League at Forrest North Pool. He really enjoyed it so he continued to swim there for the rest of middle school and tried out for the McNeil Swim Team his freshman year.
“Out of all the years that I have been on the swim team my favorite moment is when I made the team my freshman year because the tryouts were really stressful so I was really proud of myself for making the team.” Fell said.
Sophomore Anshul Munshi has been swimming since he was three years old but he took a break from swimming when he was in 5th grade. He decided to start swimming again in seventh grade because he was really bored with other sports that he was doing and he felt like swimming was something different and fun since he has always enjoyed being in the water.
“My favorite moment from being on the swim team was when the seniors ‘kidnapped me’,” Munshi said. “Which is a tradition where they come to my house really early in the morning with my parents’ permission and wake me up by throwing water at me and then we go do a bunch of fun stuff together.“
