Lacrosse team members and alumni pose gather after the annual Alumni Game.

Friendly competition never hurt anyone, and in that spirit it is a tradition of some sports teams, including boys lacrosse and boys soccer, to have alumni games over the winter break.

The lacrosse alumni game was Dec. 31 at the McNeil practice fields. Current team members reunited with old teammates, and the alumni reunited with coaches and their old home field.

“We had a big senior class in 2015, so a lot of them came back, one came back from last year, and then the rest were from before me,” varsity senior Ryan Bass said.

One of the seniors of 2015, Austin Whitlow, now attends University of Mount Olive and was named Freshman Player of the Year and Second Team All Conference.

Even though JV and varsity combined to face against the alumni, age proved victorious.

“It’s fun,” Bass said. “All the alumni come back and beat on us, and we get to beat on them without any hard feelings.”
