McNeil fell once again Tuesday night on the road to Westwood as the offense struggled as per usual, and late life from the Westwood bats led to a 6-1 loss. The Mavs fell to 2-6 L overall in the standings, making them have to essentially win out to make the playoffs.
Westwood struck first as they scored early, taking a 1-0 lead by moving runners around the bases and getting them in with well placed base hits. The Mav defense did a good job of limiting the damage though, as juniors Will Hoggard and Joseph Sandusky kept the ball in the infield on hard hit grounders, and once even got an out, saving multiple runs. The Mavs tied the game in the middle innings on a base hit from senior CJ Gonzalez to make the score 1-1 and give the Mavs some hope. However, it was all down from there. Westwood scored three runs in the fifth, and two in the sixth, as pitcher Ridge Morgan blanked the Mavs from there on out to secure the 6-1 win.
Now sitting at 2-6, the Mavs chances at the playoffs are very low. Even if McNeil wins every other regular season game, they would still need some help from the rest of the district in order to make the playoffs. Anything can happen, but the first thing they need to do is focus on winning their own games, and hope the rest plays out in their favor.
