On Tuesday, Sept. 10 the girls water polo team took their third win this season against Anderson. After a tough game, McNeil inched a 10-9 W over the Trojans.
The game started with Anderson winning 4-2 in the first quarter but as the game went on the score got closer. Junior Victoria Madero believes that the team has improved significantly since the last time they played this team on Aug. 23.
“We did better than we have in any other game,” Madero said. “Last time we played this team we lost 16-[1], it was always there, we just needed to wake up and implement all the knowledge into the pool.”
Madero believes that fostering a community within water polo has not only helped with making new friendships but has also helped them play better overall.
“Being connected in and out of the pool has really helped us while playing,” Madero said “I’ve talked with a bunch of people and the community we have doesn’t happen in every sport and I feel like water polo is a one of a kind team.”
Swim and water polo coach Johny Foss has been leading practices and coaching the team since August, he believes that there has been a major difference in how the team played from the start of the season and seeing that has been one of the more exciting things he has seen in his 25 years of coaching.
“The team has improved in [all] aspects of athletics that you can think of,” Foss said. “ The very first game was utter chaos, we had some of our own players defending our own teammates, not knowing anything that was happening and going from that to beating a three-year programis absolutely outstanding.”
The next game is Sept. 17, for more information regarding the water polo team’s upcoming events, visit the McNeil McNeil water polo website or email Foss at [email protected].
