A Tale as Old as Time

Disney releases live-action version of ‘Beauty and the Beast’

The Disney princess came alive in the recent release of the action movie Beauty and the Beast. This classic movie was well produced as a live version portraying the original quite accurately. It included several famous actors, including Emma Watson, Emma Thompson, Ian McKellen and Ewan McGregor.

The storyline was viewed with additional depth with extra scenes such as the question about Belle’s mom. In the animated original, the movie only featured Belle and her father without mentioning her mother. In the live movie, they provided details including a scene where Belle learns the truth of her mother’s death. These additional scenes made it more emotional. Though there were extra scenes, it stayed true to the original plot and never included scenes which dramatically changed the storyline.

Another factor which added to the greatness of the film was the addition of detail and humour. Instead of keeping the household items of the castle simple, the producers added pretty and unique detail toward the items giving them more character and making it more pleasant to look at. The humor found in the live version was able to be enjoyed by most ages, and it balanced out well with some of the cheesiness and suspense of the film.

Although the original included several songs, the excessive singing in the movie unfortunately took away from the movie. The movie could have been a better hit if it only retained some of the major songs.

Overall, the production was satisfactory, and is definitely a movie to watch if you love Disney princesses, especially Beauty and the Beast.
