Rockin’ The Whole World
‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ sells out in theaters
The new movie Bohemian Rhapsody is about the iconic rock band Queen, their journey to becoming famous, and the struggles they faced with the media. Throughout the movie, they emphasized the fact that they were not just a band, but a family.
The timeline of events in the movie may not have lined up with real life events, because Freddie didn’t tell the band about his disease until after Live Aid. The cinematic timeline went by almost too fast, although, it made how fast their career took off seemingly overnight. The costume design and dialog that was used wasn’t too modern, so it helped capture the essence of the ‘80s.
Rami Malek scored the lead role as Freddie Mercury in this film and did an incredible job taking on Freddie’s diva persona. The similarities between Malek and Mercury are uncanny; it makes the movie that much more realistic and enjoyable. Watching them record their music is interesting to watch, because former Queen members Brian May and Roger Taylor were on set assisting the directors, making the experience more authentic.
Lucy Boynton plays the leading lady and Freddie’s “love of his life,” Mary Austin. She was assisted by Mary Austin herself to nail this role. I love how they accentuate this character’s importance in Freddie’s life despite her amount of screen time, because no matter how distant they became at times, she was there to guide him and help him be a better person. Without a doubt, Mary is one of the most crucial characters throughout the movie.
Overall, the production of Bohemian Rhapsody was stunning. Besides the health timeline, everything was accurate.. This is possibly one of the most moving and real movies I have ever seen.
