In 2025, there were a variety of new trends and styles some of which included the popular stuffed Labubus, new emergences in AI technology and nostalgic fashion returning. Along with these, trends that should be left in 2025; the viral ‘67’ meme, the overconsumption of stanley cups and education reform under the Trump administration.
The “67” trend (which consists of yelling “67” and making your hands go in a see-saw motion) is one of unimportance, with this trend being confusing for those who haven’t seen the context behind this saying, when people hear it, their thoughts turn into annoyance, rather than humor.
Now, people aren’t able to say anything remotely close to the number 67 because kids and young adults will take it upon themselves to make sure all those around them know about the trend. While there have been other trends in the past that included laughing at a number, including the viral Vine ‘21’ meme, those had context that everyone was able to understand.
However, ‘67’ differs since if people didn’t see one edit of LaMelo Ball, which used the audio from Filipino rapper Skrilla in his rap Doot Doot, then people would not understand the reasoning behind 6-7. That’s why, this trend, that confuses and annoys more people than those who find it funny, should not be relevant as we go further into 2026.
Another trend that should be stopped, is the normalization of Stanley water bottles as a consumer collectable. With limited edition versions, such as the Starbucks Winter Pink, Target’s Halloween collections, and Wicked Stanley’s coming out, these in-store only items create a madness from people of all genders and ages to run in the store when it just opens to try and grab a tumbler, which they could find anywhere else for a cheaper price.
Similarly to most other collectable items, with people wanting to ‘collect ’em all’, the want for the limited edition version is all everyone talks about. With 2026 in full effect, people should start considering the waste it creates when people buy another tumbler and throw their old ones out. Instead of fighting for the limited versions, and buying up a ton of different colors, people should start to collect one at a time and use it to its full potential.
With the Trump administration coming back into office, they decided to change how education is taught and run. Trump wanted to shut down the Department of Education and have the states run it, cutting the funding for schools, and censoring subjects that teachers are allowed to teach for example, restricting LGBTQ+ information that is taught to students and topics that talk about the discrimination of different races.
In many states Trump enforced laws which prevent teachers from being allowed to call transgender kids by their preferred name and pronouns, which sets the United States back generations, due to the work of activists fighting for the acceptance of others and in turn, promotes the normalization of discriminating against one another. To stop this, in 2026, school administrations should make their voices heard and not allow the government to dictate what is taught in public schools.
With the start of 2026 still being in effect, the time to end trends such as “67”, the overconsumption of Stanley cups, and the Trump administration’s harmful education policies are all things that can be left in the past. This can be done by not laughing when someone says the number 67, as well as not buying the same consumer product, but just in different colors, and voting for politicians that value students best interests, specifically in public schools.
