I was sure that my passion for teaching and leading the next generation was what was going to power me through the whole process.

— Hannah Nguyen

Senior Hannah Nguyen recently became the only high school level recipient of the Charles Butts Scholarship for Aspiring Teachers. As a UT Austin prospective student in the education field, Nguyen will use the scholarship to help fund her education..

“I was sure that my passion for teaching and leading the next generation was what was going to power me through the whole process,” Nguyen said. “It ended up being one of the biggest blessings of this year thus far.”

The scholarship includes $8,000 in funding annually for at least four years. If needed, it will also fund any needed training. To maintain this scholarship, students must be a full-time student, maintain a 3.0 grade point average, and plan to teach in a Texas public school.

“Going into it, I was sure that it was going to be my miracle,” Nguyen said,

Unlike many of the other collegiate level competitors, Hannah is currently interning at Pond Springs Elementary as a part of an instructional class. Since she is the only high school semi-finalist student to compete for this award, students and teachers have applauded her hard work.

“Being able to teach another person is just so cool to me,” Nguyen said. ”I want to be a person who has impact and influence on the next generation. Teaching will let me do just that and more.”
