Banned Books Week Begins

Throughout history many books – the Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling and How to Eat Fried Worms by Thomas Rockwell – have been censored and banned from libraries and bookstores. The reasons for these censorships can be confusing or unclear. In order to learn more about this issue, it’s time for Banned Books Week.

“It is for celebrating our freedom to read,” librarian Laura Falli said.

During the week, librarians will have talks with various classes about banned books and will spread the message of not taking for granted Americans’ freedom to read.

Also this week, students will get the chance to be involved by reading selections from their favorite banned book at the library.
