By this Friday Sept. 20, the sixth week of school comes to an end, and the flex system is still unavailable to all students because the school hasn’t taught the students how to use it. This leaves an unused extra 30 minutes to first and fifth period classes.
Flex time needs to come back because flex not being open has prevented students from getting extra help from their teachers and finishing missing and make-up work. Students aren’t always available before school and after school and don’t always have access to transportation which makes the before and after school option unavailable to them. No flex for these students means they can’t do make up work or go to tutorials if they are struggling. This is also detrimental for teachers who have no way to give extra time to help their students during the school day.
Flex is also a great time for clubs to meet together and do their club activities since not everyone is available after school for club meetings. Clubs that are active during flex have not been able to hold meetings for the last six weeks of school and are unable to tell when in the future they will be. The school hasn’t said when they will make flex available leaving all students oblivious.
The extra 30 minutes in class is a complete waste of time for the students and teachers. There is no point of having it if students can’t get the help they need. The school should have sent out a tutorial to teachers so they can present it to their class during the flex time we have, that way students who don’t know how to use the new flex system will learn and flex will be able to be open to the students who need it.
The school needs to fix this problem soon instead of doing nothing. Either teach the students how to use it or just get rid of it completely instead of letting this go on for another six weeks or even all year.
