On average yearly one woman spends $120 to $240 on period products. Spending hundreds of dollars on something necessary is a burden put onto women globally. This is a problem our very own school has recognized and taken action about resulting in installing free menstrual products in all of the girls bathrooms. This is a great addition as it makes the products accessible to anyone who needs them, as well as taking the worry out of spending excessive money on them. Though it may seem like there are only positives in this, there are also downsides of them being empty most of the time.
The installation of the machines in the bathrooms was a great improvement, yet the main problem cannot be solved without the supplies in them. It should be in the janitors routine to check and restock them every day when closing the restrooms; this is a simple, meaningful, and easy task that would help many girls in emergency situations.
Rather than asking around from friends and teachers, creating an embarrassing scene, the supplies can be easily accessible with no unnecessary embarrassment. Having the stocked supplies in the bathrooms can provide a more comfortable environment where students can access with no worry.
