At the St. Andrews meet, the cross country boys were among approximately 130 boys competing. Although it was slightly muddy and a more flat course than they were used to, the team still came in 12th place out of 15 teams.“The race had a wide start [that quickly] funnelled into about three [runners] across,” junior Peyton Heinig said. “I was not able to finish because of a knee problem.”In the beginning of the race, two competitors came on both sides of Heinig and were able to push together lifting up Heinig. He stopped around the second mile, but if he could have finished the team might of had a chance at sixth place. One of McNeil’s best runners, Senior Zachary Willson, placed 17th but said overall that the meet “didn’t go too well.”
“The beginning of the season we’re suffering from injuries,” Willson said. “Once we get well, it’ll be better.”
Senior Zachary Sullivan was sick during St. Andrews, but still ran.
“Two out of our top three runners are injured,” Willson said.
